The first ZEIT outside of Dublin saw the predictably titled ZEIT 4 arrive in the historic walled town of Clonmel in South Tipperary.
The venue was an empty industrial unit in the Showgrounds Shopping Centre, which provided a surprisingly effective performance space once the lighting and projectors were in place.
After the spoken word sound collage set of O P E R A T O R was modular synthesist Dave O'Mahony who treated the audience to an explosion of glitch and modulations using an array of modules and patch leads.
I took to the stage as a collaboration with local pianist and musical arranger Eamon O'Malley to perform a short improvised set of sequencer driven electronica, utilising both the Doepfer Modular synth and Memotron, accompanied by Eamon on the piano; the audience was very receptive to both the performance and film which was projected above the stage.
The event represented another opportunity to witness the continuing success of the Clonmel Laptop Ensemble as a live project, of which I am a member and look forward to performing with this collective during 2020.

ZEIT III took place on a cold but dry night in December in the impressive venue Smock Alley Theatre in the heart of Temple Bar Dublin.
The format for this was four artists who individually have carved their own unique niche in Ireland's slowly growing electronic music scene, who came together on the night to perform as part of a improvising collective.
In the main it worked extremely well as after performing individually in the first half they connected sonically for a second half performance which engaged the small but appreciative audience.
The atmospheric backdrop of the stone walls of the original 17th century building sympathetically lit with a blue/purple wash provided enough ambience for the performance; ZEIT's usual video graphics was definitely not required for this.
All in all a worthwhile exercise, and while future ZEIT events may have moved on from the capital, it is always great to be part of this small but formative event.

Bouvetøya took a trip over the Irish Sea once more to play at Awakenings - that gem of an EM event that continues to promote and support EM in the UK, attracting many of the stalwarts of the EM scene in Europe.
It was my second appearance at the event, although a change of venue in between, I was honoured to open the event for the main attraction, the exceptionally talented Wavestar II led by the multi talented John Dyson.
It was the usual format, a one hour non-stop set semi-improvised mainly sequencer led set accompanied by video clips of anything that caught my eye browsing YouTube, usually 60s or 70s propoganda!
Just as a nod to my celtic roots, I finished the set with a piece I wrote ages ago and have never recorded during a solitary weekend down in South Kerry with the Skelligs in view - who knows, one day I might record it.
Thanks to Phil, Martin and Jez who always put on a great event and make it all look very natural, it makes for a very relaxed atmosphere when performing.

On Wednesday 24th May Bouvetøya played a 45 minute set at Z E I T : An Evening of Electronic Music, which mixed album tracks and a 20 minute sequencer driven improvised set in the pleasant surroundings of Rua Red South Dublin Arts Centre.
A small but appreciative audience enjoyed the visuals that accompanied the music, excerpts from Super High Frequency and Timeslip dominated the set, which also included a few cheeky additions from Tangerine Dream, but he thinks he got away with it!
Kicking off the event was the very talented Marty Millar aka Bocuma who treated the audience to a trippy, glitchy, downtempo extravaganza of audio/visual bombardment which was quite brilliant.
Closing the event was Polydroid whose set of 80s inspired sci-fi soundtracks was a fitting climax to what had been an excellent and well run EM event, one which will be repeated in September.
The equipment rig worked very well with no glitches, and sound on the night was excellent:

The next live appearance will be on 24th May 2017 at Z E I T : An Evening of Electronic Music.
This event will be held at the RUA RED South Dublin Arts Centre, Dublin.
Sharing the bill will be two outstanding but very different Irish EM artists, Bocuma and PolyDROID and it promises to be an excellent evening of live electronic music with a stage full of vintage and modern synthesizers.
Hope to see you there!
On the 4th July 2015, Bouvetøya embarked on a 600 mile round trip on one of the hottest days of the year to appear at the excellent Awakenings series of electronic music events in Staffordshire in the UK.
Armed with an array of analogue and VA synths he put in a 60 minute audio/visual performance of old and new tracks; by his own admission it wasn't one of his better live performances (the heat and journey fatigue took its toll) but it was great to meet some of the fans of his music in person, and many thanks to Phil Booth and Jez Creek for the invite and the visuals; and as usual, I made sure I was the loudest act of the evening ;)
